Were you forced to move from your home by Hurricane Katrina? Have you run out of medications or cannot remember which prescription drugs you need to take or how many pills a day? Have you been unable to contact your regular doctor, clinic, or hospital? If so, KatrinaHealth can probably help you.

If you are an evacuee from an area that was hit by Hurricane Katrina and you need to renew your prescriptions or get a new one, please let any doctor or pharmacist know that KatrinaHealth is there for them to use. Just tell them to visit www.KatrinaHealth.org. By letting doctors and pharmacists know about KatrinaHealth, they can do more to help you. KatrinaHealth.org was created by a unique collaboration, including national charities, private businesses, the American Medical Association, and federal, state, and local governments to help people get vital medicines during this critical period.

Why has my prescription drug information been included in this system?
Most evacuees and their physicians have lost their paper medical records, and may not know the name of the medications they are using, how often they need to take them, and the size or dose of each pill. This system will help doctors and pharmacists get prescription drug information into the hands of evacuees who previously resided in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

What can KatrinaHealth do?
KatrinaHealth can help the doctor or pharmacist caring for you look up your current prescription drug information, including information going back at least 90 days as well as allergies to medications you may have.

Is there any prescription drug information that is not in the system?
KatrinaHealth does not contain information on medications for HIV/AIDS, mental health issues, and substance abuse or chemical dependencies. This is very personal information, so it is not available to anyone.

What if I my doctor or pharmacist cannot find me in the system?
While every effort has been made to make prescription drug information available for every evacuee from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, some may be missing. However, we are trying to make it possible for even more people to get their information from this system.

Who can look at my prescription drug information?
Licensed doctors and pharmacists, anywhere in the United States, treating evacuees from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, are eligible to use KatrinaHealth. Before they use it, they must get individual permission to get access.

Is this system secure?
Yes. We have taken many steps to make this site as secure as possible. Your pharmacist and/or physician must apply to access the system and they need authorization and a password to get in.

Can I access the system directly?
No. Only authorized physicians and pharmacists with a password may access KatrinaHealth.

What if my doctor or pharmacist does not have a password?
Evacuees who want their physician or pharmacist to have access to their prescription drug information should ask them to sign up for access.
